Mumbai Police Detain Man with Fake PMO ID
Mumbai Police have arrested two men after a security breach at Jio World Plaza in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), just a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled appearance at the Global Fintech Fest 2026. One of the suspects allegedly used a fake Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) identity card to gain access to the premises. His companion was carrying a licensed revolver and six live cartridges.
The incident happened on Monday evening, September 7, according to police reports. The men allegedly tried to pass security checks at the BKC venue while claiming links to the PMO and other security services.
Police later detained and arrested the two men. A third person who was allegedly with them is still being searched for by investigators.
Fake PMO Identity Card Raises Security Alarm
The case began when security personnel noticed a suspicious government identity card during checks at Jio World Plaza. The card was allegedly presented as proof that one of the men was connected to the Prime Minister’s Office.
The suspicious document immediately raised concerns among security staff. Police were alerted, and the suspects were questioned about their identities and reasons for entering the premises.
The main accused has been identified in multiple reports as 24-year-old Rohan Premal Parikh, a businessman and share broker from Khar. His bodyguard, Dilip Rajaram Kunde, a former Army personnel from Nashik, was also arrested.
Revolver and Cartridges Found
The investigation took a more serious turn after police recovered a revolver from Kunde. Reports said the firearm was licensed, and six live cartridges were also recovered.
Although the weapon was reportedly licensed, its presence during an attempted entry into a high-security location became a major concern. Police are examining why the firearm was carried to the venue and whether all rules connected to its possession were followed.
Security agencies are also reviewing CCTV footage from the area. The footage is expected to help investigators understand how the suspects reached the venue, interacted with security staff and entered the complex.
No Confirmed Link to PM Modi Event
The incident occurred close to the venue where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to attend the Global Fintech Fest 2026. However, Mumbai Police have said there is currently no evidence that the accused were connected to the Prime Minister’s programme.
This clarification is important because the incident happened just one day before the high-profile event. Police are investigating the case as an alleged impersonation and security breach rather than as a confirmed threat to the Prime Minister.
The investigation will determine whether the suspects had any larger motive or were simply attempting to use false credentials to gain access.
Crime Branch Takes Over Investigation
The case has been handed over to the Crime Intelligence Unit of the Mumbai Crime Branch for further investigation. Officers are looking into the origin of the suspicious PMO identity card and the circumstances surrounding its use.
Police are also searching for the third person who allegedly accompanied the accused. His role in the incident remains unclear.
The suspects were produced before a court and were remanded to police custody until September 11. Investigators are expected to question them about the identity card, their movements in Mumbai and their alleged connection with other people involved in the case.
Accused Claims He Was Duped
The case has also taken an unusual turn following claims made on behalf of Parikh. His defence reportedly told the court that he believed he had received a genuine job offer from the PMO and that the documents given to him were authentic.
The defence claim has not been established as fact. Police are investigating whether Parikh knowingly used forged credentials or was himself deceived by people who allegedly supplied the documents.
Investigators will now try to establish who created the documents, how they were obtained and whether anyone else helped the accused.
Security Questions Emerge in BKC
The incident has raised fresh questions about security procedures at major venues in Mumbai. High-profile locations often use multiple layers of screening, especially when important public figures are expected to attend nearby events.
The use of a government identity card, combined with the presence of a firearm, made the situation particularly sensitive. Security personnel were able to detect the suspicious credentials, and police action followed quickly.
