Israel Launched a strikes on Iran on Saturday (February 28, 2026) Leading to a broader military conflict involving the U.S., and left the world concerned about a bigger West Asia conflict.
In that strikes several of Iran’s top political, spiritual, military leaders and scientists have been targeted by Israel, both in the June 2025 conflict and 2026 attacks.
Two days after Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, was killed in Israel-US strikes, President Trump claimed that Ali Khamenei tried to get him killed twice. Trump rejoiced that he had gotten Khamenei first, ABC News reported.
Trump made the comment during a call with Jonathan Karl, Chief Washington Correspondent at ABC news on Sunday evening.
Jonathan Karl posted a post on X about his Phone call with President Trump about the death of Ayatollah Khamenei: He said, “I got him first before he got me. They tried twice. Well i got him first.” That’s a reference to what US intelligence believes was a plot to kill Trump in 2024.”

The Former Supreme Leader of Iran was killed on February 28, 2026, in Israeli strikes, creating a Vacuum in the political leadership of Iran. Khamenei became the Supreme Leader of the country in 1989, following the death of the revolutionary founder, Ruhollah Khomeini. He was the commander-in-chief, with the final say on all policy and religious matters. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) answered personally to him.
The Justice Department termed Farhad Shakeri as an “Iranian asset” who was tasked by the Iranian regime to plot Trump’s Assassination. Shakeri, 51, allegedly told law enforcement that he did not intend to propose a plan to kill Trump within the timeframe set by the IRGC, according to an official statement. Iran denied the charges.
