Pakistan: Afghanistan attacked Pakistani forces on Thursday and claimed to have killed and captured many soldiers in retaliation for deadly air strikes days earlier.
The offensive at multiple points along the frontier follows a series of border conflicts and Pakistani strikes on Afghanistan in recent months.
“In response to repeated violations by the Pakistan military, large-scale offensive operations were launched against Pakistan military bases and military installations,” taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said.
The military governor’s office and residents in Kunar told AFP that military action was underway, while Afghan officials said the armed forces were operating in multiple other territories.
The Pakistani Ministry wrote on X that taliban forces opened fire across several sectors in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Territory, and that pakistani soldier delivered an immediate and effective response, dealing out heavy casualties and destroying multiple posts and equipment.
Afghanistan’s Taliban Government claimed at least 55 pakistani soldier were killed in cross-border fighting after Pakistan carried out airstrikes in Kabul and other Afghan cities, one of the most serious flare-ups between the neighbours in years.
There were no immediate reports of Afghan casualties.
But the Pakistani government said 133 Taliban fighters were killed, more than 200 wounded, and many posts were captured and destroyed.
