The White House has moved to quash speculation over President Donald Trump’s health by releasing a physician’s memo detailing a recent “preventative” MRI scan, confirming his cardiovascular and abdominal condition is “excellent.”
The White House has released the official results of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan undergone by President Donald Trump in October, describing the findings as “perfectly normal.” The release follows days of questions after the 79-year-old president publicly mentioned the procedure but appeared unsure which part of his body had been examined.
In a memo released on Monday, the President’s physician, Dr. Sean P. Barbabella, stated that the advanced imaging was conducted as a “preventative” measure standard for an “executive physical” for a man of Mr. Trump’s age.
The scan focused specifically on the President’s cardiovascular system and abdomen. The report confirmed there was “no evidence of arterial narrowing” or abnormalities in his heart vessels. It further noted that all major organs in his abdomen appeared “very healthy and well-perfused,” with no signs of acute or chronic issues.
The clarification comes after a confusing interaction with reporters on Sunday, where Mr. Trump admitted he had an MRI but said he had “no idea” which body part was scanned, only joking that “it wasn’t the brain because I took a cognitive test and I aced it”.
“The purpose of this imaging is preventive: to identify issues early, confirm overall health, and ensure he maintains long-term vitality and function,” Dr. Barbabella wrote in the official memo.
“Everything evaluated is functioning within normal limits,” the physician added, concluding that the President remains in “excellent overall health.”
Donald Trump, the oldest person to serve as US President, has faced persistent scrutiny regarding his health since taking office for his second term. Speculation intensified earlier this year following sightings of bruising on his hand and swelling in his legs, which the White House previously attributed to benign common conditions.
While presidential physicals are routine, “advanced imaging” like MRIs are not typically part of the standard public disclosure unless specific concerns arise. Critics have often called for greater transparency given his age, while supporters argue the President’s energetic rally schedule proves his stamina.
The release of this detailed medical memo appears designed to close the chapter on the recent wave of health speculation. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated the administration hopes this “level of detailed assessment” demonstrates their commitment to transparency regarding the President’s fitness to lead.
